Bulletin – 19th November 2021

Church Bulletin

Hello everyone

I am delighted to be joining you this Sunday as your new Vicar and for this week’s bulletin I have been asked if I can do a short introduction to myself. So here is a little bit about me!

I join you following my curacy in St Paul’s Stockingford in Nuneaton with Rev Kate Massey, whom some of you may remember following her curacy here a few years ago. St Paul’s is a lovely friendly church and I have learnt so much there, I am very grateful to them. Prior to that I trained in Cambridge for two years. My sending Diocese was Canterbury (where I was living and working when I started to explore ordained ministry) and I grew up in Essex, where my family still live. Having moved around a lot over the last few years I am looking forward to settling here in Eastern Green.

Before going into ministry, I worked in horticulture for 20 years in different roles from gardener to parks manager – which I think is fortunate from looking at the size of the vicarage garden! I still love gardening as a way of getting out and reflecting on the beauty of creation, and have been enjoying exploring some lovely new walks.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Nick, Becky and all those who have worked hard to make the vicarage lovely and welcome me here, and to all those who donated towards my welcome hampers and have been praying for me. I shall look forward to getting to know you all, please be patient with me as I am learning names! I am here as your priest so do feel free to pop in and say hello, and do continue to pray for me as I settle in.

I am very excited to be joining you and it somehow seems appropriate that its almost advent and the start of the new church year as we embark on ministry together.

Come and join the celebration!

Firstly, thank you to all who contributed to the Licensing service on Wednesday. It was fantastic that we could live stream the service, with around 50 people joining on line. Thank you to Steve Martin who did a sterling job with only 24 hours’ notice that he was responsible for getting everything arranged.

However, the celebration doesn’t finish there. This Sunday will be Jo’s first Sunday and she will be preaching and presiding at the Communion service. We look forward to as many people as possible attending to give her a warm welcome! With coffee and biscuits afterwards to give you a chance to meet her. See you Sunday at 10:00……….

Nick Tooby – Churchwarden.

Thank You

A very big thank you to Steve Martin for his Remembrance Day presentation. It was beautiful and the final picture was very moving. It encompassed all that Remembrance Day is about. Thank you Steve.

Readers

Book Club

The next Book Club meeting is on Thursday 6th January 2022 at 7.30pm. The book we will be reading and discussing is Doing Time with God by Bill Dyer. The summary of the book says:

‘The writer was robbed and shot at an ATM and was locked up in anger, hatred, and resentment. Then a miracle happened. God led Bill out of darkness and into prison for unfinished business. Like other Christian testimony books, true story impact and meaning will touch you in such a way that you will experience these things happening in yourself.’

We will meet on 6th to share our views on the book and to discuss some of the questions it raises for us. The group is open to all; if you have never been part of a book club this might be the time to give it a try. If you are interested in being part of the group, or have any questions please contact Sue Masters (07958322026).

Flower Rota

We would like to return to the tradition of placing flowers on our altar table each week.  As from Sunday, 26th September, there will be a Rota available on the Notice Board at the rear of the Church for the period October-December, 2021.  If you would like to reserve a week in which to remember a loved one by having flowers in Church, please would you sign up for the appropriate Sunday.

The procedure has changed, and we will not be collecting money from you.  Instead, we are returning to the original system:  You are asked to provide your own flowers and bring them to Church on the Thursday before the relevant Sunday.   Please arrange them in the brass vases and stand them on the altar table. (Water is available in the kitchen and scissors are in the kitchen drawer.) Any flowers from the previous week with remaining life can be transferred to the stoneware jug which stands at the back of church or other appropriate vases.  Dead flowers/cuttings and any rubbish should be taken to the appropriate bins outside church.

A special thank you to Ann and Frank Dove, for their amazing commitment and hard work in maintaining our flowers inside church over so many years.

If you have any queries, please speak to Lesley Lee.
