Pews News – 24th June 2018

24th June 2018 – Fourth Sunday after Trinity

Welcome
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Thanks
To the Prayer Team for leading this morning’s service of prayer and healing.

Cleaning
We now have a band of volunteers who have agreed to take on the cleaning of the church. It would be helpful still to have one or two more. If you would like to know more about what it entails please speak to Greg, Fran or Jackie Lynch.

Phil’s Ordination
Phil Richardson will be ordained Priest on Sunday 1st July at Coventry Cathedral at 10.30am. Phil will be presiding at Holy Communion for the first time the following Sunday, 8th July at 10am in a joint service with the St Andy’s congregation. We will be celebrating Phil’s priesting that afternoon with a Strawberry Cream Tea in the Vicarage garden. All welcome. Offers of cakes/strawberries and cream gratefully received. Please speak to Fran.

Link Round
We currently have one Link round needing a deliverer – Despard Road (65 copies). If you can spare half an hour once a month, please speak to Gill Tunnicliffe or Barbara Warner about this.

St. Andrew’s and St Andy’s Holiday Club
Children’s Church at St Andrew’s and St Andy’s are running a holiday club for primary school children aged between 5 and 11 years on Monday, 23rd July and Tuesday, 24th July. There will be lots of stories, crafts, games and activities on the theme of FRIENDS AND HEROES. Look out for more details and a registration form on our fliers or contact either Emma (07969 066979) or Hilary (07980 596646).

Holiday Club
Good news! We have sufficient volunteers to run the holiday club on Monday, 23rd and Tuesday, 24th July. We are now in the planning stages and need empty Pringles tubs and 1 litre plastic squash bottles for a craft activity. Please bring any you have to church for Hilary and Emma as soon as possible. Many thanks.

Save the Date – Parish Weekend 10th – 12th May 2019
The Parish Weekend was so successful we are doing it again next year. If you want to join us sign up now and reserve your place. The cost will be £150 for adults with reductions for children and we will operate a saving scheme if that helps make it possible for you. There will be an early bird discount of £10 for those signing up before end of November. If you are interested or would like more information please speak with Sue Masters or Greg.

Missional Strategy Team
We are starting a group to oversee the work of St Andrew’s and St Andy’s that reaches those who are not yet part of us, or do not yet know God’s love. If you are interested in being part of a working group to see how we can best reach the world (or at least the local area!) please contact Phil on philrichardson@gmail.com

St Andy’s/St Andrew’s Liaison Committee
As St Andy’s moves into its 11th year we would like to form a group to ensure a continuing and strong relationship between the two congregations. If you would like to be part of a group that looks at ways to do this, please contact philrichardson@gmail.com

Summer Party
A Summer Party will take place on Saturday 14th July at 7.30pm. Venue – Eastern Green Social Club. Tickets cost £10 per person, buffet included. Tickets available from Rosemarie Over.

Link Deliverers
The Link is ready for collection in the side room, if you deliver or are able to take to someone who does near to you, we would be grateful if you could take the bundle for delivery.

Social Media
We are looking to set up a small working group to develop policy around the church’s use of social media. Anyone willing to get involved with this should speak to Greg or Paul Crowe.

Housing Development
The consultation event with Hallam (land promoters for the fields in the north of the parish) and a meeting with Mark Andrews, the Chief Planning Officer of Coventry City Council this last week have confirmed the possibility that an additional 3,000 homes may be added to the parish over the next decade. The City Council will embark on its own consultation process around September time. It is important that every individual participates in this to maximise our influence over the nature of the development. In the meantime, we would urge you to respond to the land developers own consultation process by visiting: www.eastern-green.com/consultation. You will likely want to refer to the traffic, but please also vote yes to question 5 which asks whether a community hall will be needed.

Sidespersons Rota
After a number of years in the role, Steve Wankling is going to retire in the Autumn from his responsibility for drawing up the termly Sidespersons/Readers rota. We are looking for a volunteer to take this on. Please speak to Steve if you would like further information about what is entailed.

Screen Technician
We are looking to recruit an additional audio-visual operator to join our select team of Steve and Paul. This would only require a once in a while commitment on a Sunday morning to cover holidays. Full training provided. Concentration is the most important gift needed!

Make Lunch
For the last two years, St Andrew’s has supported the wonderful Make Lunch project that runs out of Limbrick Wood Baptist Church to feed children in the Tile Hill/Eastern Green area who have free school meals during term time but don’t necessarily eat properly during the holidays. In order for the club to run this summer, we desperately need more volunteers. It will run on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10-1pm from July 30th for 5 weeks. You can volunteer for as many or as few sessions as you are able. The team needs kitchen staff, children’s games organisers etc. If you want to know more, please speak to Greg or Hilary.

Tile Hill Library
Tile Hill Library celebrates 50 years this month. There is an event to mark this on Saturday June 30th from 10-2pm with the cake being cut at 12 noon.

Home Insurance
The Smith family has recently changed its home insurance. Not only did we save nearly £200 over the year for ourselves, but Ecclesiastical Insurance then issued a cheque for £130 for St Andrew’s. If six more families were to do this come their renewal date, this would be an additional £1,000 for the church and savings for you.  To find out more, ring 0800 783 0130 and quote TRUST130 or visit ecclesiastical.com/Trust130. This is fundraising as easy as it gets.

Allesley Green Prayer
The Allesley Green Prayer group will be prayer walking in Allesley Green on Tuesday 26th June from 7.45pm meeting at 14 Ash Green Close. Anyone is welcome to join us.

Facebook
Hannah Miller, who has been managing our Facebook page over the last 18 months is stepping down from this role because of work commitments. We are therefore looking for a volunteer to take on the task of responding to messages from the church leadership and administration and ensuring they are posted regularly on the church facebook page. For further information, please speak to Phil or Greg.

Altar Flowers
This week’s altar flowers were kindly donated by Ann Dove.
