Pews News – 9th March 2014

9th March 2014

Welcome
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality.  You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith.  If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Big Birthday Bash – 7th June
A date for your diary!  As part of the Hope 2014 programme in Coventry, there is going to be a ‘Big Birthday Bash’ in Broadgate on Saturday 7th June from 11am – 3pm.  There will be stalls celebrating family life, free barbecues, hot drinks, musical entertainment, circus type acts and much more!  If you would like to bake a cake, or help in any way, please email Angus Ormes at angusormes@yahoo.co.uk.

Passion Play for Lent
Riding Lights Theatre Company is touring its new Passion Play, Inheritance, a play ‘which weaves together the biblical Passion into a dramatic new narrative, exploring in particular some of Jesus’ encounters with women in the gospels’ on Sunday 6th April at 7.30pm at Coventry Cathedral. You can get tickets by phoning the box office on 024 7652 1210 or online at www.coventrycathedral.org.uk.

Smartphone User?
Daily Prayer is the latest app from the Church of England.  This app enables people to pray the words of the Anglican liturgy with the aid of their smartphone and tablets, and it’s free!  It can be downloaded by visiting www.chpublishing.co.uk/features/our-apps.

Thank you!
Many thanks to all who brought back Palm Crosses to be burned as part of our Ash Wednesday service – it was a wonderful start to this season of Lent.

New 4pm Service
We are going to be setting up a new service once a month on a fourth Sunday.  If you would like to be involved in planning and developing this exciting new ministry please speak to Alex.

New StAPH Leader
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Phil Richardson as the new leader of StAPH from 1st May.  Phil and his wife Anne, live on the Nailcote Grange estate off Banner Lane and currently worship at St John’s Westwood.  Please do pray for Phil as he prepares to take up this exciting challenge.

Parish Administrator
Just a reminder of Julie’s contact details as our Parish Administrator, Julie is the first point of contact for all routine enquiries about church matters.  Her e-mail address is: administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk and telephone number 07756 918847.  Julie will be working Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Church Diary
With the appointment of a new Administrator, we will be able to operate a church diary. Julie should be advised (see above for contact details) about any event that is scheduled for church including services, meetings and groups, whether regular or one off.  In this way, we can ensure that the heating is on when it is needed and the church is never double booked.  In the same way, if an event in the church is cancelled, Julie again should be notified.

Pastoral Care Co-ordinator
We are extremely grateful to David Griffiths for agreeing to take on the role of pastoral care co-ordinator for St Andrew’s.  David may be contacted on 01675 442240.  He would be keen to hear from anyone currently undertaking pastoral visiting or who might like to in the future.

The Journey Home…
Greg, Fran and Daniel will be back next week!  Routine enquires should still be addressed to Julie our administrator.  Pastoral enquiries should be brought to the attention of David Griffiths (see above).  All other urgent matters should be addressed to Alex on 07717 778853.

Healing Ministry Prayer Team Training
The next Healing Ministry training day will be on Saturday 22nd March at St Andrew’s.  Anyone who feels they may be called to this ministry should speak to Bev or Alex.

Baptism Visiting Team
We are also looking for volunteers to join our baptism visiting team.  Please speak to Norah Hall for further information.

Under 30s Bible Study
A small bible study group for adults aged 18-30 is being launched on Wednesday evenings in mid March.  Anyone interested should contact Dan on 024 7642 2856.

Window Fund
We are close to completing work on the subsidence that has so badly affected St Andrew’s Church building.  That work should be complete by the end of next month.  However, despite the incredible generosity of church members and other parishioners, we are approximately £1800 short of the amount we need to pay contractors and engineers.  We would be immensely grateful to anyone able to make any further donation to this vital project.

Easter Flowers
If you wish to make a donation towards Easter flowers please see Ann Dove.

Make Lent Count for Others!
The Christian Aid Count Your Blessings leaflet with daily thoughts and actions for Lent is ready at the back of Church – please take one and follow it through. There is a Young People’s one too! Thank you. David Hawkey 024 7646 5450.
